PARISH OF DRUMCREE
Mission Statement: Our Parish is a Christ-centred community. In Baptism we are challenged by the Spirit to live and share the Gospel message. Through proclaiming the Gospel message to all, Growth in Faith, Liturgy, Justice Issues and
Ecumenism we extend our love and care to all people providing support in renewing and deepening our faith. We value the gifts and talents of each of our Parishioners and invite them to use these in responding to Christ's invitation to all of us to follow Him and spread the Good News to the whole world.

Parish Pastoral Council:  Structures such as pastoral councils express the shared responsibility of all the Baptised for the mission of Christ.  However, without real community spirit, external structures will serve very little purpose.  Pope John Paul II wrote:
A spirituality of communion ... means an ability to think of our brothers and sisters ... as `Those who are part of me'.  This makes us able to share their joys and sufferings, to sense their desires and attend to their needs, to offer them deep and genuine friendship.
A spirituality of communion nourishes the different gifts of the Spirit to the members, both of the total parish
community and of the Parish Pastoral Council.  All have something to contribute.  None are so rich that they have nothing to receive and none so poor that they have nothing to give.

The Parish Pastoral Council is a leadership group through which priests and people work together as partners in
furthering the mission of Christ in their own place.  It does this through building up a vibrant Christian community that is rooted in Baptism and marked by its faith, worship and service.
To fulfil its role the Pastoral Council needs to be a
representative body in which the diversity of the Parish community is reflected.  It is a means whereby all
Parishioners can take part in discussions that relate to the Parish, its mission and its future development.

Four members of the present Drumcree Parish Pastoral Council are due to step down having completed two terms of office.  They are Geraldine Lawless, David Greer, Denis McCourt and Denis McKeever.  Their replacements will be elected by Parishioners.  The time table for this is as
follows:-
Parishioners can nominate fellow parishioners (with their approval) using the form printed in the bulletin.  Closing date Sunday 2nd September.  The nominees will be
contacted and those willing to go forward for election will be named in bulletin of Sunday 9th September.  Election will take place at Masses on Sunday 16th September.
The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council takes place in the Pastoral Centre on Thursday 20th September after evening Mass.

Reflection

Gift of God through others

The wheat was sown in the land
and grew silently, hidden, day and night;
the wheat was harvested
by many human hands.
And bread was made:
threshed, shaped, baked
and its fragrance filled the house.

The fragrance of God
is the air we breathe.
The gifts of life and of love
are the sources of human strength.
And like the bread on the table,
life and love come from God
shaped and nurtured by human hands.

The bread of life is the work of
human hands;
the work of Mary and Joseph caring for Jesus,
the food made by them nourishing the son of  God.

The bread of life is Jesus,
given to us by Mary, by God;
given to us by many human hands,
the hands that care for us in life.

Jesus is the gift of God
through many others
to each of us.
