The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown, will celebrate Mass at 12 noon. Those who are sick or frail due to old age or are housebound have an important place in the life of the Church and the Congress Committee are delighted that, through this celebration of Mass, they can be drawn into the final stage of preparations for the Congress. What is a Eucharistic Congress? It is an international gathering of people which aims to promote awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church; improve our understanding and celebration of the liturgy; draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist (i.e. the responsibility which we have to live in the spirit of communion and self-gift that we celebrate). The first Congress was held in Lille, France in 1881. The theme this year is `The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and one another.' The 1932 Congress was the 31st and this year marks the 50th.
