At Masses next weekend 21st/22nd August (anniversary of the Apparition at Knock/Feast of Queenship of Mary) individuals and families will have the opportunity to join in the Acts of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Presentation Sisters and the family of Sr. Brigid Kavanagh thank all who supported us at the time of her death. All who called to the house, attended her removal and funeral Mass and those who travelled to Carlow. A special word of thanks to Cardinal Brady, the Priests of the Parish, Brigid's close friends, the group who provided the music, the floral tributes, St. Vincent de Paul, The Knights of St. Columbanus, Quinn's Funeral Directors and all who in any way honoured Brigid's memory. Since then a procession of thousands of pilgrims have made their way there to celebrate the Sacraments, especially the Mass, to attend Missions and Devotions, or to light a candle and spend a quiet moment in prayer before God. Let us remember them all and the present day pilgrims who come to St. Patrick's to worship. This is what the human heart longs for, happiness that will last, joy that nobody can take from us, the eternal gift of God. All that is human is part of heaven, all that is good, beautiful, all that is true, all that is alive. Love that lasts through life, friendship that does not fade, the good we do and try to do, all will live with us in heaven. Our hope is to bring to God a life lived in love, and the effort to live in his gospel, and to be remembered in kindness and compassion, and for the good we tried to do and the love we tried to share. This feast today lifts our eyes beyond smoky cities, to the new and eternal city of God, attunes our ears beyond any strident cry, to the silent music of the world's creator, puts us in touch with the fragrance of God and the touch of the Father of the world, gentle, healing, making whole. This feast today reminds us all of our immense dignity as children of God, a dignity that lasts beyond this life into the joy and the light of eternity.
