PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL NEWS: EWTN GLOBAL CATHOLIC NETWORK (EWTN): EWTN is a Catholic television and radio station based in Huntsville, Alabama USA. It was started in 1981 by Sr. Mother Angelica, a Poor Clare Nun of Perpetual Adoration We are encouraging parishioners to consider making EWTN part of their daily and weekly viewing. To help make the decision we are providing information to explain what the programme content is, and also what you need to do to be able to receive EWTN in your home. Sky Subscriber - if you are already receiving Sky all you have to do is to tune in to EWTN channel 589 at no additional cost. For subscribers a monthly Programme Highlights Guide will be available at the church door this and future weekends. Non Sky Subscribers - if you are not a Sky subscriber and wish to consider receiving EWTN we will provide you with a Programme Series Guide. This information brochure will give you a flavour of the content of the various programmes available. If, after reading the Programme Guide, you wish to install the station, you will need a satellite dish and a receiver tuned in to your TV. To help with the tuning and or installation you can call Conor Maye (CBM Security Systems) on 07776363235 or 02838334344. He will advise on the cost and will carry out the installation. After the installation cost there is no monthly or annual charge. EWTN is available 24 hours, with many popular programmes repeated and there are no advertisement breaks. The station provides a great resource for Catholics. There are people in our parish, and throughout Ireland, who will give testimony to the quality of the programmes available on EWTN You can also call the numbers which are listed on the PH and PSG if you wish to receive the Programme Guide by post each month, or for any other queries you might have. Or St. Patrick's Church, Dungannon - times to be Reflection The Good Samaritan A lot can be learned about a people from the stories they tell. People who tell stories about their children are letting us know how much they mean to them, and this can be a way of remembering them with love or with worry or prayers. We know Jesus by the kind of stories he told, and the Good Samaritan was one of his best. Jesus could tell that story because the man who watched others pass by he had felt rejection and neglect himself, and like the man who had been beaten up by the thieves, he had been mistreated by people who wanted to kill him. So he knows what it’s like to be a victim of street violence, or to queue for help and be passed by, or to need any sort of sympathy and be ignored, He knew what it was like to be bullied, to be robbed, to be left alone. And he knew what it was like to be helped, as the man in the ditch was helped, and he remembered the care of Mary, his mother, and those who looked after him on his journeys, and he knew he would need help like that when he was brought to his death. And he was the type of person who also helped, whose heart was moved with compassion for the whole human race, for you and me, as was the heart of the Samaritan. Jesus, who saves and calls us into his service tells us about being the helper and the helped, from the experiences of his own life. That’s something of what Jesus was like, your friend and mine.
