Your generosity has been overwhelming and greatly appreciated. Dear Parishioners, an article appeared in a publication last Sunday concerning our Parish. We feel a response is necessary. Some coffin panels were left in a burning area for rubbish at the far end of a field adjacent to the Parish Cemetery. They came from the broken remains of a coffin from another Parish. The article was entitled `Locals ask how casket ended up in grave dump.' It was not a casket but a side panel of a casket. But who did the `locals' ask? At no time did anyone ask the priest, sacristan, cemetery caretaker or cemetery manager who could have provided a straightforward explanation. If the people were so concerned surely this should have been the first port of call rather then running to a newspaper. The article also quoted that `there have rumours circulating.' This statement says more about the person who contacted the newspaper and the publication itself than anything else. If they wish to deal in rumours, that is an indication of their character. If they had wished to find out the truth all they had to do was ask and to find out the explanation was very simple. The reporting of the story leaves much to be desired and we hope that other people will not be upset or caused any unnecessary grief by some of the reporting. prayerfully, Very Reverend Michael O'Dwyer PP Reverend Brian White CC Reflection That my own joy may be in you We search for joy and love in life: in our emptiness and our yearnings, our hurts and our griefs, our loneliness and our boredom, we want joy, and we want to be loved. And in friendships and loves, in the moments of peace and harmony among family and with friends, there are glimpses of joy and of love, and we know that the human heart is made for joy and love that is everlasting. Let's be thankful: for the joy and love of life, for the joy and love of children, of husbands, wives and family; for the joy and love of friends, of neighbours and of colleagues, and for the joy and love we shared with those who have gone before us. And let's be hopeful in times where all this is missing, that it is not missing forever. When love is hurt or joy is muddied, let's be hopeful that we will find such joy again; and let even the ache for joy and love remind us of love and joy that lasts forever: the love and joy of God. |
