World Youth Day 2008 |
The tenth international World Youth Day will get underway in Sydney, Australia on 15th July and end on 20th July. Pope Benedict XVI has arrived in Australia to meet with the hundreds of thousands of young people who have travelled from all over the world. Among the pilgrims are a number of young people from Drumcree Parish who are part of the Armagh diocesan delegation. Please pray for Aine, Angela, Cliodhna, Patricia, Eoin and Dermot who are accompanied by Fr White. The Holy Father has asked that Catholics unite themselves spiritually with the participants and the pope has granted a partial indulgence to this end. A plenary indulgence can be gained by those in attendance in Sydney. Special WYD candles burn in our parish Churches to remind us of those on this special pilgrimage. The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is providing comprehensive coverage of the events in Sydney and it can be viewed on Sky satellite channel 589. You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses (Acts 1: 8) Links of Interest World Youth Day 2008 The official website Catholic Communications Office A special WYD feature from the Bishops of Ireland Plenary and Partial Indulgences Details of the indulgences granted for this special occasion World Youth Day Blog Armagh pilgrims provide updates and pictures from the pilgrimage Eternal Word Television Network Special section on WYD from the EWTN website |
