Solemnity of St. Patrick - Saturday 15th March 2008 |
The Solemnity of Saint Patrick is normally celebrated on 17th March every year. However, in 2008 that date falls during Holy Week and no other feast days may be marked during that period. Consequently the Church in Ireland has moved the celebration of the national apostle to 15th March. This Solemnity is ordinarily a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics in Ireland. The duty to attend Holy Mass does not however apply when a Holy Day of Obligation is moved as is the case here. Nonetheless, the faithful are strongly encouraged to attend Mass on 15th March as it is the most appropriate means of thanking God for the Christian witness of Saint Patrick in Ireland. Parish Mass times on Saturday 15th March 2008 Church of Saint Patrick - 10.00am (as Gaeilge) Church of Saint John the Baptist - 11.30am * Please note that the Masses on Friday 14th March 2008 are to mark the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary. That feast normally occurs on 19th March but has also been moved this year since it falls during Holy Week.
